ON THE BANKS OF THE DANUBE
I sit by the Danube, beneath the sorrowful willow,
Watching as the waves flow from a distant mountain,
And with them I send off sorrows and ugly thoughts,
To sail down the Danube, into the Black Sea.
The Danube flows from the Black Forest, from a distant mountain,
With it sail ships and white seagulls,
I banish dark thoughts into the Black Sea,
So only beautiful memories and dreams remain.
The Danube flows and time passes, our days go by,
Tomorrow different waters will flow, and a new time will come,
There's no return for the past, it won't come back,
Only some dormant longing will return again.
