While hungry mothers drag their bodies through the morning,
pondering what they will give their children for lunch today,
in this dislocated world,
I choose children.
In the wounds, sorrow languishes.
Centuries folded in the veins.
Like a boundary between the abyss
into which humanity sinks.
Traumas are transmitted
from grandmother to granddaughter,
from mother to daughter.
Sons bow their heads
seeking mercy for their mothers.
Fathers' bones shiver.
Stomachs break from pain.
Step out onto the streets.
Be a body
fragile as glass.
If you break,
let it be on
wooded ground.
Invent something for me.
So the world can be more beautiful.
Let's not close our eyes.
The margins reveal more clearly.
Be my color.
Draw pillars of shame
with clusters of children's smiles.
Let the barbed wire fences burst,
and let the walls weep anew.
